Hey guys!
I´m going to summarize in today´s post what we already did around the book, what I liked and what I didn´t like. I´ll also mention some ideas for creative tasks or other things to do.
What´s up? Do you
remember the day when I posted my first blog entry? It´s already about three
weeks ago and it actually doesn´t feel like that.
By now, we´re through
5 chapters, which make up 31% of the book :)
First of all I have
to say that this is already my fifth blog entry!! Nice, right?
What we already did:
- we filled up a secret letter about ourselves before we started reading. It was about our lives and if something dramatic has happened to us as to Sam
--> I liked that quite a lot because I first thought that it has not such much to do with the book but it actually relates to it quite well
- we got information about how to keep a reading log
--> these were actually pretty helpful and I liked reading them (sounds weird but our teacher made them sound really cool)
- our first blog entry was the opening: it´s about what we expect from the book and about what we think about the idea of a blog
--> that was a really nice idea and I liked writing this entry
- we did a description of the setting of the story
--> I didn´t like that task that much because I generally don´t like summaries and descriptions
- we checked the perspective of the first chapter
--> that was okay for me haha (kind of what we also do in our German lessons)
- we did a character analysis of Sam
--> character analysis are cool because if you think more about the character, you can feel a lot better with him and you can imagine what he thinks. But it´s also one of the more difficult tasks and it´s a lot of work to catch up all the information
- we rather characterized the relationship between Sam and his mum or between Sam and Alicia
--> that was good too because of the same reasons as for the character analysis: I feel like I know so much more about the relationship between Alicia and Sam now
- we imagined a third person narrator to tell the story
--> I didn´t like that task so much because it´s so theoretically and not really interesting or necessary in my eyes
- we rather explained why Sam´s mum said “I wouldn´t be so scared of her (Alicia) then” (page 56) or we wrote a dialogue at the dinner table at night, when Alicia came over to Sam´s house for the first time
--> this task was so cool! I first of all had kinda no idea but while reading I was already wondering about Sam´s mum saying such things about Alicia.
- we talked about why, when and from who the message “I need 2 c u urgent” could be send to yourself (the message is originally sent from Alicia to Sam on page 71)
--> I liked that imagination because it was creative and still real: all of us could get such a message one day and I actually already got one like this one
- my teacher read out a part of the fifth chapter
--> this was like usual listening but it was a lot more fun because he imitated Alicia´s and Sam´s voice so good! Good job, Mr. Z ;)
- we had to spot our favourite thought of Sam and our favourite dialogue part which shows his feelings about the message
--> that was one of my favourite tasks because I like finding favourite quotations and I also liked that most of us read out what they´ve chosen
- we summarized the dialogue between Sam and Alicia at Starbucks and at the chemistry
--> as already said before: I´m not a fan of summaries… But I have to say that they´re useful because information is packed up then
- we characterized rather Sam´s or Alicia´s reactions to the pregnancy and exchanged what we found out afterwards
--> that was cool too. I actually didn´t spot the differences between Alicia´s and Sam´s reactions before we did this task. It really made me understanding the book way more
- we tried to find out why they reacted differently
--> that was difficult for me because we don´t know that much about Sam and Alicia and reactions are really hard to judge

As you can see, we
did a lot ;)
Back to my creativity then:
I would like to look
for more favourite quotations and exchange my choices with my class mates.
It would also be cool, if everybody looked for an image of Sam and Alicia. So we could compare our different imaginations to each other and talk about why we think that they might look like that.
We could also search for suitable quotations of other people which impress Sam´s current feelings. Maybe there are people who went through the same?
Imaging a conversation between the poster of Tony Hawk and Sam would be interesting too.

I hope, I caught
everything up in here. If you have some more cool ideas or want to say
something to me: just comment.
Enjoy your evening,
Melanie
